Remember the childhood rhyme, perhaps we all use to sing, stick and stones may break my bones, but words would never hurt? I disagree: WORDS DO MATTER!  The power of our mouth can direct, destroy, or delight. Our words can build character, strengthen minds, and give hope.

This inspirational story is based on James’ charity foundation, which motivates children to reach for the stars and “strive for greatness.” This rhyming narrative, with art by Nina Mata, encourages kids to dream big and that they can achieve goals with hard work.

We must daily claim and be grateful for good. Gratitude enlightens our experience and removes mental darkness. True gratitude acknowledges the good in our lives. More than this, however, it demonstrates our acceptance of good.

A Johnson City, Tennessee, woman who authorities say admitted to fatally shooting a woman on Memorial Day in Sullivan County has been released on bail.

And then: It was often so quiet that an observer would think nothing ever happened here. (Where have we heard that recently? Got to love an author who embraces her lineage.)

Thanksgiving this week will be different from any we have celebrated. We may gather in smaller groups than usual. Some of us will innovate with technology, just to have some semblance of “gathering.” And some of us may have an aching hole where a loved one had always been before.

Mr. Dayton Owens’ letter on Oct. 19 states that the liberal media constantly gives, creates and promotes negative statements about President Trump and any conservative candidates. Really? I would suggest listening to the statements of the president instead of the media.
