Last month, NASA and international counterparts launched the James Webb Space Telescope, which promises to open humanity’s eyes even wider to the cosmos. If the telescope fulfills even a fraction of its potential, it will be a bargain for taxpayers and a boon for human knowledge.

But let us remember that for whatever reason we may go through wilderness experiences, God is not only with us every step of the way, but He also promises after a certain amount of time to lead us back into the cool refreshing waters of His joy, peace, and restoration.

I’m no saint, but I do feel somewhat of a strong kinship to the much-beloved Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Indeed, Saint Francis could be viewed as the original Earth Day/animal rights advocate. He praised all creatures as brothers and sisters under God.

The truth: At one point in time, it was believed dogs could only see in black, white and shades of gray. This myth is still believed by many people today. Dogs have fewer color-sensitive cones in their eyes than humans do. However, it has been discovered that although it’s not in the same way as humans, dogs can in fact see color. They can see blue, green-ish yellow and yellow along with various shades of gray.
