The No. 15 Emory & Henry Wasps (26-7) were selected to play in the NCAA Division III tournament on Monday and will face fifth-seeded Bridgewater State University (17-9) of Massachusetts on Friday in the Seguin, Texas, regional on the campus of Texas Lutheran University.

Emory & Henry will host the Lynchburg Hornets in an ODAC tournament semifinal doubleheader today. A third game, if necessary, would be played on Thursday. The series winner advances to this weekend's ODAC championship series...King acrobatics and tumbling standout Catherine Reynolds is the third King athlete to claim NCATA All-America honors.

Graham's Katie Benson placed second in the Class 2 state cross country meet in Salem on Thursday. Wise County Central’s Lydia Slemp (8th) and Tazewell’s Lauren Keene (10th) also had top-10 finishes. The Virginia High girls finished fourth as a team, while the Union boys placed third...Among other results from Thursday, King loss to Barton 14-2 in the opening game of the Conference Carolinas tournament, while ninth-ranked Emory & Henry dropped a doubleheader to top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan.

Alex Braun was effective in the circle and at the plate in leading Emory & Henry to an ODAC doubleheader sweep of Ferrum on Thursday....The Brewer brothers will return to ETSU to play for new coach Desmond Oliver after entering the transfer portal...Tennessee's Rennia Davis was the ninth overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx.

Both Emory & Henry and Virginia Tech advanced in their respective postseason tournaments on Thursday. The Wasps defeated Eastern Mennonite, while the Hokies toppled Miami. The King women led in the fourth quarter, but fell to top-seed Belmont Abbey in the Conference Carolinas semifinals.

Sullivan East High School’s Amelia Malcolm recorded a sixth-place finish in the 132-pound weight class during Thursday’s TSSAA girls wrestling state tournament in Chattanooga...In other news, Thomas Walker girls basketball standout Shelbie Fannon will play college basketball at Alice Lloyd...King women's basketball will be the fourth seed in the Conference Carolinas tournament that begins on Tuesday.

Emory & Henry will play just five football games in the spring, beginning tonight at Ferrum College, after the 2020 ODAC season was cancelled due to the pandemic. E&H will have at least two home games played on Fridays with no fans, a huge blow to a school that has always been among the top NCAA Division III schools in terms of attendance in the nation.
