CASTLEWOOD, Va. H. D. Bud Herndon, 79, died on Monday, July 27, 2020, at his home. He was born in Dante, Virginia, son of the late LeRoy and Estelle Phillips Herndon. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Herndon; one daughter, April Herndon of Winona, Minnesota; two stepsons, Lynn Domby of Yuma, Arizona, and Kevin Domby of Davis, California; one special sister, Vickie Morrissette and husband, David of Castlewood, Virginia; one sister, Betty Harding of Castlewood, Virginia; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing. Graveside services and entombment for H.D. Bud Herndon will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2020, in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia, with the Rev. Shawn Dupuie officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Gibson, Gose Dickenson, Wayne Chafin, Ben Harding, Dylan Harding, David Morrissette, and Ronnie McReynolds. February 25, 1927 - July 26, 2020 RICH VALLEY, Va. Claude Curtis Carter, age 93, passed away on July 26, 2020, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a United States Army Veteran who served in World War II. Curtis was an avid coon hunter. He also spent a lot of his time farming. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, William Bradley and Hattie Mae Carter; his wife, Ocie Lamie Carter; and two brothers, Earl and Ralph Carter. He is survived by his two sons, William "Rasty" Carter (Andrea) and Brad Carter and wife, Sandy; two daughters, Linda Joan Carter, and Susan Robbins and husband, Lenny; two sisters, Louise Moore and June Buchanan; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many special friends. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at the Ridgedale Cemetery with Pastor Mack Blevins officiating. June 13, 1955 - July 26, 2020 Ray Allen Barker, age 65, of Kingsport, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at UT Medical Center. He was born on June 13, 1955, in Bristol, Va., and was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area. Ray was a retired contractor and an avid fisherman. He was of the Baptist faith. Ray was preceded in death by his father, Herman A. Crusenberry. Survivors include his mother, Marie Moore Crusenberry; loving wife of 30 years, Janet Thompson Barker; children, Tammy Hinkle, and Scott McMurray and wife, Kristi; grandchildren, Geoff Hinkle and Jacob McMurray; great-grandchildren, Xzavier, Nevaeh and Mya; sister, Connie Sproles; uncle, Eddie Barker; and several nieces and nephews. March 19, 1942 - July 26, 2020 On Sunday, July 26, 2020, Robert "Allen" Slagle gained his heavenly wings after a brief illness. NORA, Va. Helen Lee Mitchell, 82, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020, at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn. She was born on January 23, 1938, in Garmeda, Ky., and raised in Tackett Creek, Tenn. She later moved to Brushy Ridge in Nora, Va., where she had resided currently. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer "Doc" and Bessie Kidwell; son, David Kidwell; sisters, Geraldine Mathis and Gladys Terry; and brothers, Albert Kidwell and Hubert "Buddy" Kidwell. Helen is survived by her husband, Beecher Mitchell Sr.; son, Beecher Mitchell Jr. (Melissa); daughters, Teresa Mitchell, Sheila McCoy, and Karen Swindle; grandchildren, William McCoy Jr. (Andrea), John Swindle, Misty Flannery, Bridgette McTeer (Kyle), Tiffany McCoy, Jessica Swindle, and Heather Mitchell; brothers, Joe Kidwell and Charles Kidwell; sisters, Charlotte Mims, Margaret Spurley, Willadean Fischbach, and Viola Pleasant; 10 great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
