LEBANON, Va. — A murder charge has been lodged against a Lebanon man accused of shooting a man in December.

Donald Ray Clark, 56, was charged by warrant on Friday, according to Russell County Commonwealth’s Attorney Zack Stoots.

The charge stems from the fatal shooting of 66-year-old William Trigg Tignor, Stoots said.

The prosecutor declined to release additional details about the shooting, including where it occurred or whether the individuals knew each other. However, Tignor’s obituary states that he died Dec. 17 at his home in Lebanon.

Stoots said an extensive ongoing investigation continues by the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Lebanon Police Department, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police.

“This is a horrific event that should have never occurred,” said Stoots, who indicated that additional details will be provided once the investigation concludes.

Before being charged with murder, authorities charged Clark with possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling, reckless handling of a firearm and obstruction of justice. Those charges also stemmed from the December shooting.

Clark, who has a court hearing on Feb. 20, is being held without bail at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon. He is represented by attorney David Tiller.
