I-81 Southbound Widening (Washington Co.)
Design Public Meeting

Find out about the proposed widening to three lanes of Interstate 81 southbound between mile
markers 8.1 and 9.7 and extension of the northbound I-81 merge lane. This project will involve a
change and/or break in limited access control.
During the meeting, VDOT will follow all COVID-19 precautions to ensure the health and safety of
attendees. The project website will include the same information, materials and presentations
available at the public meeting. The project website is found at:

Review the proposed project plans and the National Environmental Policy Act document in the
form of a Categorical Exclusion at the public meeting, on VDOT’s website at

Please call ahead to assure the appropriate personnel are available to answer your
questions. Property impact information, relocation assistance policies, and tentative
construction schedules are available for your review at the above addresses and will be
available at the public hearing.
Give your written or oral comments at the hearing or submit them online from the survey on
VDOT’s website at the address listed above by November 7, 2021, to Mr. Gene Holley, Project
Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 2111 Bonham Road, Bristol, VA 24201. You
